I really felt a difference from my first child. My milk supply is great, and my mood as well! - René
Flutterby is a Certified Placenta Encapsulator, ensuring your placenta is processed using the strictest of protocols.

The placenta is an amazing organ responsible for the production of many beneficial hormones and nutrients, including oxytocin (the hormone of love). Most mammals consume their placenta after birth. Encapsulation is the process of dehydrating and grinding the placenta into a fine powder that is then placed into capsules for consumption (similar to an herbal supplement). Clients report many postpartum benefits including better mood, less anxiety, better milk supply, increased energy and more.

What is the Process for Encapsulation?
Flutterby offers two options: High Yield/Raw Start Method or Steamed/Traditional Method.
Your placenta is properly and carefully stored prior to the encapsulation. The dehydrated placenta is ground down to a fine powder and placed into capsules, which are taken orally in the weeks following the birth and left-overs can be saved in the freezer! I use vegetarian size '00' capsules, which are easily swallowed.

Other Considerations |
Likely retains the most iron and provides a more "instant" boost to energy levels - May not be the ideal choice for those prone to high anxiety because of this. |
Considerable loss of mass during steaming yields fewer pills. May provide more protection against bacteria due to steaming; recommended if Group B Strep positive. |
Nutrients in the Placenta: Prolactin: promotes lactation Oxytocin: for pain and enhanced bonding Thyroid stimulating hormone: boosts energy and relieves stress Cortisone: combats stress and unlocks energy stores Interferon: stimulates the immune system Prostaglandins: anti-inflammatory Hemoglobin: replenishes iron deficiency and anemia Urokinase inhibiting factor/Factor XIII: stops bleeding and aids healing Gammaglobulin: immune booster that helps protect against infections Vitamins and Minerals including iron and calcium |

What is the Process for Creating a Tincture?
Looking to reap the benefits of your placenta far beyond the capsules? To create a tincture, prepared placenta powder is placed in a 2-ounce bottle with 100 proof vodka. This bottle will be given to you, and should be agitated daily for six weeks by rolling it between your hands. After those six weeks, you may use the dropper to take 5-8 drops of the tincture under your tongue or in water each day. You can continue to make more tincture for as long as you'd like, lengthening the time that your placenta can benefit you postpartum, during your menstrual cycle, and in menopause! Instructions for processing and use are provided. The cost is $25 to add this to your package.

How Do You Ensure that the Process is Safe? What Experience and Training Do You Have?
I have encapsulated hundreds of placentas since 2013, and have completed more than 100 hours of encapsulation-specific training, including:
|
I am certified in and follow universal protocols for the safe handling of blood-borne pathogens. I work on one placenta at a time. Much of my equipment is single-use/disposable. All other equipment is washed in hot, soapy (anti-bacterial) water, then soaked in a 10% bleach solution for at least 20 minutes, then washed again. I then bleach and wipe all non-porous surfaces with medical grade sani-cloths. I wear disposable gloves, a disposable apron, protective eyewear, a disposable respirator, long-sleeve clothing, and tie my hair back. I properly sanitize my work space before and after each encapsulation. Safety is my top priority!
What are the Contraindications for Placenta Encapsulation with Flutterby?
Placenta to Pathology/Improper Storage:
If you give birth in the hospital and they want to take your placenta to pathology for testing, please ask if they can take a small piece and leave the rest with you. If your whole placenta is sent to pathology, there is no guarantee it will come back to you having been stored at the proper temperature for food consumption or having not come in contact with chemicals directly or through cross contamination. There may be instances where anomalies or abnormalities require the hospital to take the entire placenta, and it will not be made available to you.
The placenta must be placed on ice/in a refrigerator that can cool it and maintain it at 40° F for the entire storage time within two hours after birth.
Blood-Borne Illnesses/STDs:
Upon completion of my contract, you will sign to verify that you have no blood-borne illnesses, chronic viral or bacterial infections, HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis, or other STDs that one could be infected with through contact with maternal fluids (blood and amniotic fluid).
Infection:
If a uterine or amniotic infection (Chorioamnionitis) presents itself during labor, it is not safe to re-introduce the infected tissue by consuming the placenta.
Lyme's Disease and C.Diff are also contraindications, as those infections may be reacquired.
COVID-19
If you are positive for COVID-19 or have tested positive within the last 30 days, encapsulation is not recommended.
A note about Group B Strep (GBS):
The presence of a GBS colonization on the mother's prenatal test itself does not indicate an active infection and encapsulation is not contraindicated (though Steamed/Traditional Prep would be recommended). However, if baby has early-onset GBS infection immediately after/within 48 hours of the time of birth, it is not safe for mother to consume the placenta. For more information on my certifying body's stance on GBS and encapsulation, CLICK HERE.
YES, those who have an epidural or a cesarean birth can still encapsulate!
YES, those who are induced can still encapsulate!
